If you’re yet to catch Lesley Manville’s brilliant psychological drama Phantom Thread, you’d better hurry as it’s leaving streaming very soon. The 2017 movie, which co-stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Vicky Krieps, is set in the London haute couture scene of the 1950s.
The movie has been streaming on Prime Video, though is due to leave the site in 7 days’ time, so be sure to get a watch in this week.
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Phantom Thread focuses on the relationship between dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock and his muse Alma Elson, with Manville starring as Reynolds’s sister Cyril.
Earning six Oscar nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Manville and Best Picture, it took home the award for Best Costume Design.
The movie proved a huge critical hit, sitting at 91% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes from 358 reviews, and was called “challenging” but “also jaw-dropping on more levels than it’s possible to count” by Little White Lies.

“There is such pure delicious pleasure in this film, in its strangeness, its vehemence, its flourishes of absurdity, carried off with superb elegance,” added The Guardian.
Uproxx further labelled it “a strange, entrancing, often darkly funny film”, while Empire called the movie a “gothic romance in prestige Brit picture style”.
HeyUGuys wrote that Phantom Thread is a “genuinely thrilling piece of filmmaking, which while not being one of his most accessible works to date, is certainly one of Anderson’s most memorable one[s]” and “simply stunning”.

Anderson has been gaining huge acclaim for his latest movie One Battle After Another, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti.
The thriller sees a former revolutionary drawn back into his old lifestyle after his daughter is pursued by a corrupt military officer, and was called a “stone-cold, instant classic” by Empire. Esquire further labelled it “smart, comic, knotty, emotionally charged” and a “masterpiece”.
Phantom Thread is streaming on Prime Video until 5 December.
