Nicholas Hoult has provided an exciting update on the Superman sequel. Titled Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up film to this year’s Superman will see Hoult reprise the role of villain Lex Luthor to David Corenswet’s Man of Steel.

Confirming that filming on the sequel is due to begin in April, Hoult teased fans with what to expect, saying he has already read the script and calling it “awesome”.

Speaking with Variety at the Red Sea Film Festival, Hoult was asked if filming starts in April. The actor nervously confirmed the news after saying that DC boss James Gunn had already made the announcement.

“This is something that I realised during press for the movie as well,” said Hoult. “James kind of leads the way on what we can say at what point. And I’m sure that he, at some point, said that we start in April.

“But I also have now said that. And I don’t think it’s troublesome that I said that, but maybe it is. But I think that’s probably when we start filming.”

Quizzed on whether he had seen a script for Man of Tomorrow, Hoult said that he “can’t say much about it, but it’s awesome”, adding: “There’s some really fun stuff.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Hoult opened up about playing the iconic villain, saying: “There’s been so many wonderful actors who’ve played Lex. So I feel honoured to be another one, another name added to that list.

“And I just love what James Gunn writes, how he wants to portray that character, evolve the character going forward as well. So I feel like I’m in safe hands with him, and it’s a character that I really enjoy playing. It makes me happy.”

Earlier this year, Gunn opened up about the sequel during an interview on The Howard Stern Show, telling Stern that filming was likely to begin in April 2026 with a view to releasing the film in 2027.

“We’re starting to shoot in April or so,” he said, adding: “We released the fact that we’re coming out with Man of Tomorrow last week. It’s going to be out in two years in theaters, on July 9th of 2027, which is relatively a short time between sequels because we knew immediately where we were going.

“And it is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. And it’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.”
