The Madame Blanc Mysteries has just released a trailer for its upcoming explosive Christmas special, with the action following Jean White as they work against the clock to try and unmask a killer.

Sally Lindsay returns as the central antiques dealer and amateur sleuth, who moved to the South of France after the death of her husband Rory (Peter Gaynor).

Created by Lindsay with Sue Vincent, the upcoming festive special for the cosy crime series will see Jean and Dom Hayes (Steve Edge) involved in an especially dangerous situation this time around.

The couple are joined by Judith (Sue Holderness) and Jeremy Lloyd-James (Robin Askwith) at an exclusive Christmas Eve event at the Musée de Sainte Victoire, where Jean is invited to authenticate a rare Ormolu box once owned by Marie Antoinette.

The trailer sees a shocked Jean opening the box to reveal a ticking bomb hidden inside. She finds a secret message to decipher to solve the case as all characters join in to help, but which one of them is lying?

“With just 90 minutes until detonation, the museum is sealed shut, the security guard is dead and the race is on,” reads the synopsis. “Jean and the gang must crack the code and defuse the bomb before time runs out. This is Jean’s most perilous challenge yet – can she save the day?”

The two-hour festive special airs on 5 on 23 December at 8pm and will be available to stream on 5’s platform.

Other stars reprising their roles for the special include Vincent as Gloria Beauchamp, Alex Gaumond as Chief of Police André Caron and Tony Robinson as Uncle Patrick.

Joining in are also a host of Madame Blanc newcomers, including Coronation Street’s John Thomson, EastEnders’ Kacey Ainsworth, Hollyoaks’ Raji James and Trigger Point star Manjinder Virk.

“This is our homage to the classic Christmas film. It stands alone as a plot but has all your favourite characters in a very extraordinary situation,” Lindsay said in a statement.

“It is a very ambitious concept but we are beyond thrilled with how it has come out. In fact, I actually cannot wait for all our wonderful fans to watch it. A very Merry Christmas from all of us in Sainte Victoire.”

The series has proved to be very popular with viewers during its run, with one user on IMDb calling it “almost perfect” as they praised it for its focus on older-aged characters and incorporation of multiple languages.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries Christmas special airs on 5 on 23 December at 8pm. It will be available to stream on 5’s streaming platform.
