Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street has announced a shocking death storyline, which will kick off next month during a special episode featuring flashforward scenes. Viewers will be kept guessing throughout spring, as various potential victims are uncovered – with the killer still at large.
The episode will see one Corrie character being questioned by the police after finding a dead body – and five possible victims will be highlighted. But which character will meet their untimely demise, and what exactly led to the fateful incident?
“During the course of our flashforward episode, we discover that one of our characters has found a dead body on the street, and we don’t know who it is, so there are five potential victims, and we’ll take the audience on a journey for them to try and figure out who that body is and what happened,” said Corrie producer Kate Brooks.
Brooks described the story as “very complicated, very intricate”, and explained that it would tie in with some of the current stories on the Street. She teased a lot of unexpected twists and turns that will “keep people guessing until the very end”.

“It’s our big thriller-esque story as we go into spring, early summer. It will involve an awful lot of the community. I don’t think I’ve ever told a story that involves quite as many character groups. It’s everyone – everyone’s impacted, everyone’s affected by the story.
“There are so many twists and so many turns and it’s been a real challenge in some ways, because it is so complex and intricate, but it’s so exciting. Just when we think that the story is going in one direction, we absolutely do a U-turn and go into a completely different direction.”
She added: “So, it’s something that keeps people on the edge of their seats, I think, and it will keep people guessing until the very end. Don’t be fooled by what you think is happening, because that might not be the case!
“We’ll reveal the five potential victims in that episode, so we’ll know that it’s been narrowed down to five. What we don’t know is who it is, because a lot of those potential victims have created a lot of waves in the street.”

Soap fans will be aware of EastEnders‘ recent flashforward, which followed Max Branning on New Year’s Day 2027, and will unfold over the next 12 months. Brooks denied copying the rival show, claiming that Corrie‘s episode is “something that’s been in the making for a really long time” and will only take place a few months ahead of present day.
“It’s not like a whole year or anything like that. It’s a few months. As I say, it’s a scene of a character being interviewed by the police. So we understand what’s happened, we understand the context of what’s happened, but we don’t actually know who it’s happened to,” she clarified.
“So yes, it’s a few months in the future, and it teases for the audience what’s to come. It’s a really big storyline that’s going to deviate into many, many different avenues and involve an awful lot of our characters. But, yeah, it’s just a short flash forward.”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
