Netflix has dropped the terrifying first trailer for its new “cat-and-mouse” thriller The Beast in Me.

From Homeland boss Howard Gordon, the upcoming show sees Claire Danes take on the role of Aggie, an author who is grieving the loss of her son.

Per the synopsis: “Acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has receded from public life since the tragic death of her young son, unable to write, a ghost of her former self.

“But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance.

“At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth – chasing his demons while fleeing her own – in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly.”

Slated for release on Netflix on 13 November, the newly released teaser trailer promises a suspenseful and thrilling eight-parter.

As well as getting a look at Danes and Rhys in character as Aggie and Nile, the trailer gives us a glimpse at Brittany Snow as Nile’s spouse Nina and David Lyons as an FBI agent named Brian Abbott.

Also featured in the trailer is Breaking Bad star Jonathan Banks as Martin Jarvis, Nile’s father, and Aleyse Shannon as Olivia Benitez, a city council member who opposes Nile’s business plans.

As the trailer plays, Danes’ Aggie can be heard saying: “We are, all of us, drawn to monsters. We flirt with death to prove we’re truly alive. And if we can’t stop, then that small fire we lit might just burn the whole house down with us still inside.”

Previously speaking about working with Danes again, Gordon said: “She really has that uniquely rare ability to convey the most interior thoughts, and you know what’s going on inside her. There’s a fierce intelligence, but there’s also her vulnerability. She really conveys that.”

All eight episodes of The Beast in Me will be released on Netflix on 13 November.
