Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney was left tearful as she attended a reunion event for Brookside. Though she may be currently plying her trade in Weatherfield, the actor’s return to Merseyside proved to be emotional.

Sweeney found fame on the Channel 4 soap as she portrayed Lindsey Corkhill between 1991 and 2003, and attended a reunion party on Saturday (24 January) as several cast and crew took a trip down memory lane.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo following the event, the actor said: “I’ve been dying to come on this boat for ages and tonight is so special. I’ve [welled] up so many times seeing people who have meant so much to me.

“It’s a trip down memory lane. You see someone and you have vivid flashbacks of moments in time with these people. Words aren’t enough to sum up how special this show was – it meant so much to a lot of people.”

Sweeney, who appeared in over 1500 episodes of Brookside, also shared her verdict on the recent crossover with Hollyoaks, opining: “I cried [during] the opening credits when the taxi pulled into the Close. And then when I saw the picture of Dean Sullivan.”

While the actor harkened back to the past over the weekend, the star is currently enjoying life in Weatherfield as she portrays Cassie Plummer in Corrie, a role that she debuted in back in June 2023.

Elsewhere on the ITV soap, one family that is at the centre of the drama is the Websters, with Debbie, Kevin, Carl and Abi all involved in the action as various sub-plots have come to light.

In the latest twist, it was revealed that Debbie was actually Carl’s mother as opposed to sister, though he is yet to discover this. Following the developments, Michael Le Vell teased what could come next.

“We all started putting our subplots on it about who the dad might be,” said the actor, who plays Kevin. “Terry Duckworth could be one, or another one is Brian Tilsley… It would be great for the Platts and Websters to be somehow related!”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
