Bridgerton spoilers follow.

Bridgerton may have only returned to Netflix last week, but we’re already looking forward to what the future holds for Benedict and Sophie. As their relationship blossoms, we now have a teaser for the second part of the fourth season.

The period romance drama unveiled its latest story last week (29 January), with the latest story seeing Benedict and Sophie – played by Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha respectively – confront their feelings for each other.

Of course, the story, which is based on Julia Quinn’s 2001 novel An Offer from a Gentleman, is only half-told after Netflix opted to split the season into two volumes. With four episodes already released, we now have a teaser at the upcoming scenes.

Though it’s only a brief teaser at just over 30 seconds long, the tension between Benedict and Sophie is palpable as their romance begins to smoulder, but fans on Instagram were asking one question.

The first volume culminated with Benedict asking – perhaps insultingly – Sophie to be his mistress, and viewers took to the comment section to query this, with one asking: “Did she accept to be his mistress??”

“So she ended up being his mistress?! History repeats itself. (Referring to her mom),” asked another inquisitive fan in the comments, while a third noted: “I thought she didn’t want to be his mistress.”

Others lamented the month-long wait between the volumes, with one viewer writing: “Why would you make us wait a whole month??? Some of us are fighting season depression and you do THIS.”

While Benedict and Sophie’s arc is the main attraction, there are plenty of other juicy storylines in the period romance drama, with the friendship between Queen Charlotte and Lady Agatha Danbury becoming strained.

The developments led some fans to question if Adjoa Andoh would be departing from her role as Lady Danbury, but showrunner Jess Brownell maintained that there was a future in the series for the character.

“I want to say very clearly that we have no intentions of Adjoa stepping back. She’s still absolutely a part of the story in season five,” Brownwell told Deadline. “It was more about wanting to explore the dynamic between a friendship in which there’s a power imbalance.”

Bridgerton Season 4 Volume 2 streams on Netflix from 26 February.
