EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders star Joel Beckett has shared an unexpected theory over Jake Moon‘s so-called death amid his original exit. The character departed the soap back in 2006, though is now back in Albert Square after a cameo in September 2024.
While many had presumed that Jake was dead, Joel has come up with his own amusing backstory over where his character has been over the past two decades.
“It’s nice coming back because it’s given me 20 years to come up with a backstory of where he’s been,” he said on This Morning.
“In the show, we talk about he’s been on the run and I sort of think, has he been to Greece, to Thailand, to Spain… I had him down as some sort of suave Lovejoy going around the world buying antiques. Because he came back in an E-type, and all that kind of stuff. But I doubt that’s the case!”
When soap expert Sharon Marshall mentioned his barge, Joel added: “Even the barge was great! I turned up, ‘this is a lovely barge, where’s he got this from?'”

Jake’s comeback to Albert Square comes as viewers learnt that he and Chrissie Watts split due to her twisted revenge plot against Zoe Slater, and while he refused to help Zoe prove her innocence over the death of Anthony Trueman, Kat and Vicki crossed paths with him.
He then returned to Walford, where he reunited with Alfie and Phil, and last night’s episode saw Jake’s dark secret over his killing of brother Danny resurface as Alfie (unaware of his cousin’s death) suggested seeing Danny.

While speaking to Phil, Jake questioned whether he did the right thing by killing Danny – who was accidentally killed after he himself was tasked with assassinating Grant – Phil suggesting he do right by his family instead.
This heart-to-heart spurred Jake to have a change of mind and agree to help the others track down Chrissie, sending her a text begging for another chance in the hope of luring her back. He then got a response agreeing to meet – but will Chrissie follow-up?
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
