Coronation Street revealed new hope for Todd Grimshaw tonight, amid his devastating domestic abuse storyline. As Theo Silverton continued to assert his control, did he push Todd too far this time?

Last week, Todd became further trapped in his abusive relationship as Theo cut up his bank cards, making him financially dependent on the villain. He was left with a measly £10 allowance, which he struggled to stretch while Theo was away.

Things didn’t improve when Theo returned from Doncaster, as he immediately began berating Todd’s eating habits. He forced his fiancé into arduous exercise, all while disparaging his physique.

In tonight’s (13 February) episode, Theo’s nasty words rang through Todd’s head as he completed another lengthy run. But after pushing himself to the point of exhaustion, he eventually collapsed on the street.

Fortunately, his boss George Shuttleworth and Christina Boyd saw him fall and helped him recover in the funeral home. As they tended to his injuries, George expressed concern about Todd’s excessive exercising.

Though Todd insisted that he was fine, the reality of his injuries soon became apparent when Christina gently removed his trainers. The pair gasped in horror as they discovered his sore and bloodied feet.

“I just need to soak them, that’s all,” Todd claimed, but George urged him to take a break from running before he got seriously hurt. Despite his hesitation, Todd agreed to “ease off” for a few days.

Todd’s hopes of escaping the relationship were devastatingly dashed last month when his confidant, Billy Mayhew, died. However, with George and Christina now showing their concern, will he decide to confide in them soon? Or will they figure things out on their own?

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
