The Murder Line – a crime drama also known under the title of The Borderline in the US and Canada – has been confirmed to be coming to ITV in the UK, with a release window of April. The series, which boasts an impressive cast, will air on ITV1 and be available for streaming on ITVX.

Stephen Amell – probably most recognised for his previous roles in CW’s superhero series Arrow, and more recently the Suits spinoff Suits: LA – will star in The Murder Line as officer Henry Roland, who finds evidence linking his old friend to a crime. The cast also boasts Hamza Haq, from award-winning medical drama Transplant, and Minnie Driver – most recently seen in Emily in Paris, after joining for season five, and Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben thriller, Run Away.

Haq plays the role of Tommy Hawley, officer Roland’s childhood friend with whom he shares a dark secret, while Driver’s character is described as the matriarch of “a ruthless British crime family”.

A description for the drama, provided by ITV, explains that it “follows a cop from the wrong side of the tracks who ventures beyond the line of duty to save a childhood friend, only to have everything unravel.

“When his plan backfires, his carefully constructed life begins to collapse, thrusting him into a dangerous collision course with backstabbing criminals, suspicious colleagues, and vulnerable civilians who need him more than ever.”

Deadline previously reported that The Murder Line – which was also previously called Underbelly – has been created by Graeme Stewart, and was an original drama for the Canadian streaming service Crave.

Bell Media’s Justin Stockman, VP, Content Development and Programming, said (via the publication): “With exceptional creative vision from Graeme Stewart, Aaron Martin, and Robert Budreau, and rich, multi-dimensional characters, the series delivers a gripping narrative that we know will resonate deeply with all audiences.”

The series also stars the award-winning Tamara Podemski (Coroner), as well as Kate Corbett (Fargo), Thomas Craig (Murdoch Mysteries), and Christopher Heyerdahl (Supernatural).

The Murder Line is coming to ITV1 and ITVX in the UK in April, an exact release date has not been confirmed.
