Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street fans see Maggie Driscoll’s sour mood turn her into a monster next week, as she tears her son Ben and Steve McDonald apart at Jim’s funeral. Having taken a savage dislike to Ben’s new friendship, Maggie pours scorn on his plans to attend Jim’s service and support Steve.
But is her interference more than just the act of an overbearing mother?
“Tabloid rumours suggest that Maggie had an affair with Jim McDonald – and he may even be Ben’s biological dad,” our Corrie spy reminds us.
“No wonder Maggie can’t hide her disgust at Ben’s friendship with Steve, who could be Ben’s secret brother.”

Ben may have found a new BFF in Steve, but Maggie continues to keep a watchful eye. As the men bond over Ollie and Amy going on a first date, they’re blissfully unaware of Maggie’s attempts to sabotage the potential new couple.
The next day, Steve leans on his new friend and asks if Ben will be his moral support at Jim’s funeral. Although this puts Tim Metcalfe’s nose out of joint, the landlord knows all too well what it’s like to lose a father and accepts Steve’s invitation.
“Maggie is absolutely scathing when she hears Ben’s going to the funeral,” our insider continues. “She points out that he hardly knows Steve and shouldn’t get involved in their private family business. But her unsympathetic comments leave Ben confused.”
As nervous Steve sets off to the funeral, with his mum Liz and twin brother Andy nowhere to be seen, he’s comforted by Ben’s presence.

Later, mourners gather at The Rovers – including Declan and Davey, two of Jim’s friends from the Army. They share memories of Jim’s past, as sour-faced Maggie watches on…
“Maggie tries to drag Ben away from the wake,” reveals our spy. “She reminds him of his upcoming hospital appointment and tries to put an end to the reminiscing.
“Maggie’s foul mood erupts again the next day when Ben misses his vital appointment. Will anyone work out what’s tipped her over the edge?”
