A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has confirmed its exciting new cast, ahead of season two. The Game of Thrones prequel has been renewed for a second instalment which is set to air next year.

The show is based on George RR Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series, and centres around a young knight named Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg.

Together, the unlikely duo embark on a daring journey through Westeros, forging an unbreakable bond.

“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends,” reads the logline.

Season one is an adaptation of the first novel in the Dunk and Egg saga, titled The Hedge Knight. The next instalments will be inspired by the other published books in the series, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight.

Peter Claffey (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg) will be reprising their titular roles for season two. Meanwhile, Bohemian Rhapsody’s Lucy Boynton, Alien: Earth star Babou Ceesay and Ozark’s Peter Mullan will be joining the cast as Lady Rohanne, Ser Bennis and Ser Eustace Osgrey, respectively.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms debuted this January and currently holds an impressive 94% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes from 89 reviews. Digital Spy awarded the drama four stars, praising its “lighter, more comedic” tone, compared to its predecessors.

“The more sensational, squirm-inducing moments are still as crucial to the storytelling as ice-blonde hair on a Targaryen, but they are reserved for the back half, which is no bad thing. In some ways it leaves room for the show to establish its own identity,” our review notes.

“The tonal shift in the franchise is both refreshing and appealing and goes some way to making up for the slow pace as the story finds its footing. Dunc and his squire Egg go the rest of the way to making the (relatively) plodding start work.”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and Now in the UK. In the US, the series airs on HBO and HBO Max
