Marvel Studios has confirmed a shake-up to the release schedule for its Cinematic Universe, with two new films being added to the slate. With loads of untapped potential in the superhero genre, what could they be?

The long-running series is in the midst of its sixth phase, with the Multiverse Saga set to continue later this year with the release of both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday.

After Avengers: Secret Wars concludes the Multiverse Saga in December 2027, it remains to be seen where the franchise heads with several projects already in the works, and it’s now been reported that a couple more have been greenlit.

As per Deadline, an untitled film originally scheduled for release on 18 February 2028 has been pushed back to 28 July of that year, while the mystery project set for 10 November 2028 is now no longer on the schedule.

With these latest developments, Marvel Studios now has three films scheduled for the year of 2028, with 5 May and 15 December already being reserved in addition to the new slot in July.

For 2029, two new slots for films – 4 May and 13 July – have been used, though there’s no official confirmation as to what these will be. But given that some projects have been teased previously, we can hazard a guess!

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already hinted that the next phase would focus on the Mutants, so it seems a safe bet that Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men film will kick off that saga.

We also know that Ryan Coogler is working on a third film in the Black Panther series, which is widely expected to be released in 2028. So if that takes one of the other two spaces, we still have one slot left.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is believed to be working on a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, though that doesn’t have a release window.

Armor Wars, which was announced way back in 2020, has seemingly stalled in progress. Originally envisaged as a series, it was re-modelled as a film in 2022, but an update in February 2025 said that development had stalled.

The only other project with some concrete information is the reboot of Blade, with Eric Pearson joining as the screenwriter in 2024. It was subsequently removed from the schedule, but is still said to be in development – could it take one of the slots?
