The founder of a female-focused fitness centre is expanding in response to increased demand from over-40s who want to exercise.
Lisa Jarratt opened the doors to Downham Ladies Fitness in 2019, which has since become a welcoming, supportive, and professional environment for women over the age of 40.
The business has grown rapidly and now has more than 120 members, meaning Lisa needed a bigger space to operate from.
Lisa is excited to open in a new, bigger, studio
She currently has two separate studios on Downham’s High Street, but has been able to purchase a new, bigger space thanks to the rural business and communities grant scheme, delivered by North Norfolk District Council and Norfolk County Council.
Lisa says the grant funding will support the business expansion plans and investment into improved facilities and services for members.
The new studio, located on Horse Fair Close on the St John’s Business Estate, is currently undergoing works and is due to open on June 21.

Lisa said: “We are incredibly proud of how far the business has come since starting in 2019.
“The support from the local community has been amazing, and growing from home workouts during lockdown to now preparing for another expansion — with over 120 members — is something we are extremely grateful for.
“Our focus has always been on creating a welcoming and empowering space for women, and this expansion allows us to continue building on that.”
During the Covid-19 lockdown, the business adapted by running home workouts from a garden cabin, which “helped maintain support for members during a challenging period”.
