Hillgrove said police are still working diligently to forensically identify family members.
“We are still concerned for the welfare of the mother,” he said.
“We would like to ensure she is safe and can receive any appropriate treatment or support.”

Shortly after the infant was found local iwi, Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rarua, placed a rāhui on the area “acknowledging the people involved in the event, who were indirectly impacted, and so we’re here to support them as well”.
“We all come together and share the load and the burden in terms of this,” Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rarua pouwhakahaere/chief executive Shane Graham said at the time.
“We don’t even know the baby or the father or whoever’s been involved, but it doesn’t mean that we don’t have our responsibilities to provide that manaakitanga and that support to them, because it’s in our patch.”
Police also continue to seek information from the public.
