Emmerdale has revealed a new threat to Serena Sugden as part of the cover-up surrounding Dr Caitlin Todd’s death.

Last week, Dr Todd died after Sarah pushed the villain during a confrontation between Charity and Todd, after walking in on the row.

After Dr Todd fell and hit her head on a table, she died, leaving Charity and Sarah to scramble to get their stories straight.

Serena is the only other person who knows that it was Sarah, not Charity, who accidentally killed Dr Todd.

She walked into the house shortly after everything happened and helped Sarah and Charity get their stories straight.

In today’s episode, Serena was called into the police station to give a statement after Vanessa mentioned her in her statement.

In the statement, Serena said she saw Vanessa shouting at Dr Todd as she was getting into her car. Serena said that she heard Vanessa say “this isn’t over”.

Later, newcomer DS Ramsden told her that she knew she wasn’t telling the truth, asking: “Why did you lie in your statement?”

After Ramsden said she couldn’t tell Serena if her statement matched all the other witness statements, Serena said: “I’ll tell you. It matches every other statement.”

Ramsden said it was because the witnesses checked in with each other, but Serena insisted it was because it was true.

“It’s not,” said Ramsden, adding: “Whatever you’re hiding, I will find out.”

A nervous Serena left the police station, but with Ramsden breathing down her neck, will she be exposed?

Elsewhere in tonight’s episode, Charity told a devastating lie after Mack jumped to conclusions, theorising that Charity killed Dr Todd on purpose and was lying about it being self-defence.

Instead of correcting Mack, Charity went along with the false version of events in an attempt to protect Sarah.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
