After 27 years, the Fast & Furious franchise is officially coming to an end with its upcoming instalment Fast Forever. The 11th film in the long-running action series will be hitting the big screen in 2028, and anticipation is high.
Earlier this month, Vin Diesel announced that the script had officially been written by Mike Lesslie, calling it “the best” he had read “in decades”. Now, the actor and producer has shared exactly what it took to ensure that the finale would be “worthy”.
Appearing at the 25th anniversary screening of The Fast and the Furious earlier this week, Diesel shared an update on the upcoming blockbuster, which is scheduled begin filming later this year.

“We start shooting in December, if I can make good on the request from the studio,” he told Variety. “I’m in a good place, though.
“I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale. And when I read the script a couple of weeks ago, [I cried].”
Inside the screening, the star teased just how emotional and “personal” the final instalment would be, with the actor telling the audience how much effort went into the conclusion.
“It was after four different writers, four years of development, and after I read the script, halfway through, one tear. By the end of the script that we crafted and worked so hard to make right for you after four years, I was crying,” he recalled.
“I couldn’t hold it back, and I had to tell everyone. And my sister said, ‘No more crying, bro.’ So I just want to say that sometimes, even the toughest guys in the world need to cry,” he added.

Fast Forever will see Diesel reprise his role as family man Dom Toretto, with the late Paul Walker set to appear in some capacity as Brian O’Connor.
Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot will be reprising their respective roles as Luke Hobbs and Gisele Yashar, with Fast X’s Louis Leterrier returning to the director’s chair.
Fast Forever is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 17 March 2028.
