The Traitors family tree theory lives on! After Ross and Ellie, and Judy and Roxy, revealed their connections in the castle, even more of the contestants are now unmasking their secret relationships. But did Stephen and Matthew actually know each other previously?
ICYMI, Jade and Amanda shocked the world (and by the world, we mean, er, us) yesterday, when they shared they actually had something that tied them together before heading onto the show. In a video posted on Instagram, the 56-year-old retired detective and 25-year-old PhD student shared that Amanda actually used to work incredibly closely with Jade’s boyfriend’s dad, when they were Met Police officers together. Who knew!
Now, Stephen, a 32-year-old Cyber Security Consultant, has revealed whether he and Matty, a 35-year-old Creative Director from Edinburgh, knew each other before the show. Fans had theorised that they had a connection because they’re a similar age and both Scottish.
“There was quite a few family tree theories going around, I don’t know if you’ve seen,” Cosmopolitan UK asked Stephen in an interview (which you can watch above). “There were points where people thought you and Matty had some sort of connection, I don’t know if you saw that…”
Stephen replied, “There were points where people thought I was in a relationship with every single male in the castle! I was making my way around that castle, apparently, according to the internet. It’s funny because Matty is the kind of person I probably would have had knowledge of, because he’s also gay and he also lives in Scotland.
“So it is strange that we actually had no idea who each other were before going in there. But since leaving, we have become so close, and he’s such a wonderful person. We’ve [had] very similar experiences growing up, so there’s that unwritten shared experience between the two of us.”
