Ten months after it opened, a café and gym has undergone a sizeable expansion and now has even more to offer.

When it launched in early March 2025 in Haverhill’s High Street, the Gym & Juice Club occupied the ground and first floor of part of the building that had been vacated two years earlier by Poundland.

The gym is located both in the rear part of the ground floor (through a door that can only opened by gym members and staff) and on the first floor, with the café Juice Bros, the first place you arrive at when entering off the street.

With the empty part of the building on the market for some time and having not been snapped up, the decision was taken to expand the club, as Mark Lovell, who owns the business in partnership with Omer Serbetci and Ashton King, explained.

“The plan always was, we will take control of this side and if things go well we can look to purchase the one next door.

“I’ve had to take a bit of a gamble, if I’m honest.

“It’s probably a little bit early but I was getting worried because I saw someone taking a look around it and thought, If I don’t take it now I’m going to lose it.

“You have to be brave and go for it sometimes.”

Mark, formerly of Haverhill but now living just outside Bury St Edmunds, is expanding what the gym has to offer but he also wants to push the Juice Bros side of the business more too.

Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and being open to anyone (not just gym members) it has much to offer, emphasised Mark, as he aims to raise its profile.

Work is ongoing to get the gym expansion complete and it is being done in phases.

There is already a functional fitness and cardio area and a big open hyrox facility but the new-look is to include physio and massage and a recovery suite with a sauna and an ice bath. The intention is to open the recovery suite in the summer.

More weights and machines have been added in the extended area and there are plans to introduce a new studio at the end of February in which the club can run fitness classes for children in smaller groups.

Once the extension is in use, the business also aims to welcome instructors in yoga, pilates and potentially more besides.

When the Gym & Juice Club first opened, Mark pointed out his commitment to creating something with more of a community feel to it.

He said: “I’m passionate about building community and I think the High Street, if you are not going to get the style of shops that have been there before then this kind of thing can build the community because it brings people in.”

The gym part of the expansion was officially launched on Sunday, where a DJ was on hand to provide more of a party a vibe.

A co-owner of Juice Bros in arc Shopping Centre, in Bury St Edmunds, Omer is involved in the café side of the operation, with Ashton on board with both elements of the business and Mark taking care of the gym.

Mark is also a part owner of Linton Gym and one of the partners that owns the Mr Barbers franchise in East Anglia.
