EastEnders spoilers follow for Monday’s episode (23 March), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
EastEnders’ Cindy Beale and Max Branning are keeping a big secret from their loved ones after their shock passion in recent episodes. Cindy and Max’s history is complex, with the pair having slept together on Christmas Day without knowing who each other was.
When their identities were revealed soon after, they were both horrified – not least because of Max’s role in Cindy’s son Steven’s death. But they couldn’t keep away from one another, and last week, the pair had another passionate encounter in The Albert after closing time.

Meanwhile, Linda was warming to Max once again and decided to go and see him in the bar, but she was horrified to spot him and Cindy kissing through the window.
In today’s episode, Cindy and Max reflected on their unexpected tryst, with Max asking for confirmation that their fling was just a two-time thing.
“You mean I can’t post any pics or tag you on social media, but we’re exclusive?” Cindy responded sarcastically. “Do you really think I’d want our families to know about this, Max? We’re not exactly Romeo and Juliet, are we? So yes, agreed.”
When Linda spied this conversation, Max attempted to catch up with her – unaware that she had seen him and Cindy in a steamy clinch. Linda was cold with Max but allowed him to take their daughter out for dinner.
Later, Max and Annie headed out for food, and Linda made a point of checking that nobody else would be joining them. She looked on wistfully, and it was clear that she was struggling with jealousy and her own feelings for Max.

There is a lot more drama to come for Cindy and Max later this week, when Josh tells the Slaters and Truemans that his call to his twin Jasmine was answered a couple of weeks ago – meaning that someone has the missing mobile.
We know that Cindy currently has the device, and Max urges her to make things right. As a result, Cindy attempts to plant Jasmine’s phone in The Vic, but things go wrong and her crafty scheme is exposed…
