Beyond Paradise returned with its fourth season tonight, much to the delight of its fans – and one moment in particular proved to be comedy gold. Namely, a scene in which Dylan Llewellyn’s Constable Kelby Hartford interviewed Mr Bevan went down a storm online.
The moment saw Kelby being told about all the (extremely) petty crimes that the bookie had suffered, including being hit on the head with a rolled-up newspaper and having his dog’s poo stolen. Yes, really.
When Mr Bevan told Kelby – or Kelly, as he kept incorrectly calling him – that the thief was wearing a tracksuit “with his backside hanging out”, he dropped what has been hailed as the best line of the episode.

“That’s kids for you these days, though, isn’t it?” he asked, before quipping: “I know you’ve got all these face recognition cameras these days. You’d be better off with arse recognition.”
The remark went down well with fans of the detective drama, with several taking to social media to express their joy as one wrote on X: “Nah we need this wee guy and kelly to have scenes every week. peak comedy.”
“I love Mr Bevan,” said another viewer, while a third wrote: “Arse recognition is taking me out, this guy’s hilarious.” Another fan echoed this sentiment, writing: “Big up arse recognition.”
Elsewhere in the beloved series, cast member Zahra Ahmadi has exclusively told Digital Spy about the one trait she feels her character, DS Esther Williams, needs to let go of: her tendency towards being closed off.
“She needs to quit with this. It’s not serving her,” she said. “It is now at a point for Esther where it’s really unhealthy. This absolute refusal towards vulnerability and this essential need to be stoic all the time. It’s beyond tedious and it’s actually not doing her any good.”

The actor did hint that there might be some progress in that department as the series progresses thanks in part to Kris Marshall’s Humphrey, teasing: “There are really lovely moments with Humphrey in this season.
“Oftentimes it’s been slightly more Esther [offering him help] in terms of personal life here and there. This time it really flips-reverses and he’s really guiding Esther at points and she lets him, which oftentimes she doesn’t with anybody.”
