Greenland 2: Migration, the unexpected sequel to Gerard Butler’s 2020 disaster thriller, has unveiled its dramatic first trailer – and you don’t have too long to wait before it hits the big screen.
Set to be released next year, the film sees Butler reprise his role as structural engineer John Garrity, who has to plot his new course in life after the Earth is ravaged following a global climate disaster.
The first trailer teases the protagonist’s new life in the bunkers of Greenland five years after the catastrophic incident. Alongside his family and a group of other survivors, he embarks on a perilous journey as they seek a safer home.

Butler is joined once again by Deadpool star Morena Baccarin, who reprises her role as John’s wife Allison, while Jojo Rabbit’s Roman Griffin Davis has replaced Roger Dale Floyd in the role of the couple’s son, Nathan.

The first film proved to be a surprise hit with critics, with the thriller having a creditable approval rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes from 159 reviews, with several pundits noting its entertainment value.
“Butler’s best star vehicle in years, what could have been a bombastic bunch of boulders is, instead, a refreshingly clear-eyed and compelling affair. One of the best disaster films in years,” opined Empire Magazine.
“The result is a first-rate B-picture, and a timely reminder of the delights of well-crafted popcorn thrills,” wrote The Observer, while LAist called it “surprisingly gripping and well-done”.

Critics were not the only ones surprised by the “well-crafted” film, with one user writing on Reddit: “Greenland was surprisingly one of the best disaster movies I’ve ever seen.”
“Really was surprised [by the first film], a tense disaster movie. This one [could] be interesting to see how this is executed because you kind of don’t want to just repeat the first movie but to expand on it,” wrote another user.
Greenland 2: Migration will be released in cinemas in 2026.
