After the long Bank Holiday weekend, another month has passed, but that doesn’t mean the fun stops when it comes to film. As we head towards festival season, there’s plenty of high-profile projects coming your way.
While Bad Apples, Resident Evil and Fall 2 are some of the films that will be playing on the big screen following National Cinema Weekend, there are also plenty of releases on various streaming services.
So, if you have a subscription for any of Netflix, Prime Video or Apple TV, you might want to know what’s coming on that front. And luckily for you, we’ve assembled five great picks from the month ahead!
Mayday
Apple TV
This ’80s-set spy caper sees Ryan Reynolds portray Troy Kelly, a pilot in the US Air Force who goes by the moniker of “Assassin”. His world is turned upside down, however, when he crash-lands in the Russian wilderness with nowhere to go.
Luckily, local carpenter Nikolai Ustinov (Kenneth Branagh) knows the lay of the land, and agrees to help the lost friend. He also happens to be a former KGB agent, so he’s handily equipped when needing to evade enemies.
The action comedy is from the writing-directing duo of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who are known for Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves. It’s already been hailed as “one of the year’s best” films, so don’t miss it!
Mayday is released on Apple TV on 4 September.
In the Grey
Black Bear
The latest collaboration between Henry Cavill and writer-director Guy Ritchie, this action thriller follows Rachel Wild (Eiza González), a cutthroat lawyer who specialises in recovering debts for rich and powerful clients.
Her latest job is altogether more dangerous, however, as she is tasked with claiming back a hefty sum of money that has been stolen by a criminal organisation. She assembles an accomplished team of elite operatives, but this won’t be easy.
In addition to González and Cavill, the latter of whom portrays Sid, the stacked cast for the film includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Emmett J Scanlan and Rosamund Pike. Having already been released in the US, it was called “stylish” by one viewer on IMDb.
In the Grey is released on Prime Video on 9 September.
Call My Agent! The Movie

The film is a continuation of the popular French comedy-drama series, which aired 24 episodes across four seasons between 2015 and 2020. Now, six years later, we’re getting a feature-length project on Netflix.
The comedy comes several years after the ASK Agency closed down, with Andréa (Camille Cottin) working on her debut feature. Disaster strikes, however, as she loses her lead actor just days before filming, meaning she calls on her old team for a reunion.
The eagerly-awaited film is widely expected to be the conclusion of the popular franchise, though series creator Fanny Herrero hasn’t explicitly confirmed that. Either way, we’re glad the gang is back!
Call My Agent! The Movie is released on Netflix on 10 September.
The Love Hypothesis

The highly-anticipated rom-com is based on Ali Hazelwood’s 2021 novel of the same name, with Tom Bateman and Lili Reinhart starring as Dr Adam Carlsen and Olive Smith respectively.
Carlsen is a college professor who teaches PhD student Olive, with the pair having very different outlooks on life and love. They put their theories to the test and enter a fake relationship, but could something more be on the way?
In addition to the central pair, the cast for the film includes Rachel Marsh, Arty Froushan, Nicholas Duvernay and Jaboukie Young-White. Claire Scanlon, best known for Set It Up, is directing from a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild.
The Love Hypothesis is released on Prime Video on 23 September.
Unabomber

Janus Metz Pedersen’s true-crime thriller sees Jacob Tremblay portray Ted Kaczynski, the domestic terrorist who murdered three people in a spate of bombings between 1978 and 1995.
The film charts Kaczynski’s beginnings as a gifted academic student at Harvard University in the late 1950s, before he abandons his studies for a reclusive existence in the state of Montana.
Tremblay is joined in the cast by Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig and Shailene Woodley, while a recently-released trailer teased what we can expect from the upcoming crime drama.
Unabomber is released on Netflix on 25 September.
