As Kit listens to the speech, he is overcome by his emotions, having just been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Todd Grimshaw notices him leaving to get some air, and asks what’s bothering him.
A few days later, Kit confides in Todd that he’s got an upcoming appointment for a CT scan. Todd encourages Kit to share his worries with his family, rather than trying to deal with it all alone. But will Kit heed his advice?
“I think blokes generally keep their health concerns to themselves. I know I could ask my dad if he’s gone for a check-up and he won’t tell me anything. I think it is a blokey thing to do,” Jacob Roberts, who plays Kit, told Digital Spy and other media.
“You don’t want to worry people. You feel like keeping it in will help everyone, but it doesn’t really, because you really want to know when there’s anything you can do to act on it straight away.”
Kit’s cancer could be caused by the BRCA mutation gene which runs in the family. Roberts explained that his character is reluctant to share his concerns until he has “concrete news”.

“It must be such a hard thing to tell people, and especially family, because you’re delivering bad news on yourself, but you’re also delivering bad news that ‘you might have it, you might have it’, you know, [Kit’s son Brody] might have it.
“There’s so many elements that can go down. There’s so many people that might have the same thing.”
Speaking about Todd’s role in the storyline, the actor said that Kit “feels safe” with the undertaker because he “has his back”.
“He can tell Todd certain things that won’t go further… you know, as it does on the street, where things catch like wildfire,” he explained. “But with Todd, I think he’ll keep his secrets and it’s just to offload why he’s being a certain way and maybe Todd gets him in that certain situation.”
