A 45-year-old woman who balances her role as a carer with running her own business has shared how she managed to lose two stone by making one simple lifestyle change. Kelly Denslow turned to the Simple smart phone app earlier this year after previous unsuccessful weight loss attempts and not only has it helped her shed the pounds but it bought about what she describes as ‘a lifestyle change for not just myself but my family’.
Kelly explained she had initially gained weight during the Covid pandemic, while a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and various prescribed medications also had a knock-on effect. She turned to the app because healthy eating plans she’s found success with in the past had stopped working: “I was looking for a diet that I could try. I did try a couple of the ones that I’ve done in the past, and unfortunately, it just wasn’t working, the weight wasn’t shifting and the medication was just not helping whatsoever.”
After learning about the advantages of intermittent fasting, she chose to give it a go and discovered Simple. She said: “I downloaded the app in the middle of April, but I didn’t actually really go forward with using it consistently until early part of May, and in those three and a half months, I have now lost two stone,” reports the Mirror.
The Simple app offers personalised daily workouts, science-backed coaching and nutritional analysis, all designed to assist individuals in losing weight and feeling healthier. Simple claims to be ‘reshaping the science behind weight loss, standing as an innovative alternative to the restrictive and ineffective diet industry.’ Now, anyone interested in trying it can use the code REACH60 to save 60% off.
Kelly said Simple has transformed her daily routine, explaining that her discomfort levels have reduced and she has ‘a lot more energy in myself.’ She said the changes aren’t restrictive and she’s still able to enjoy treats, with the added benefit of being more mindful about her food choices: “I have learnt to weigh everything and just be more aware of what I’m eating. We do have treats, we do have desserts. We have that odd chocolate bar.”
The benefits of using Simple have also extended to her family. Kelly explained: “My husband has lost getting on for three stone. My daughter is still young and growing, but she’s lost 10 pounds. So it just shows that it really does work as a lifestyle change and not a diet.

Boasting millions of downloads and more than 17 million users, the experience for Simple subscribers starts with an extensive questionnaire covering fitness goals, preferences, previous slimming attempts and other contributing factors. The app has a host of tools including straightforward meal tracking, exercise advice and an intermittent fasting monitor.
Its NutriScanner feature helps users understand their meal nutrition and daily exercise routines. Meanwhile Avo serves as its AI-powered in-app coach and personal wellness companion.
Fitness apps flourished during the pandemic, as users tried to find ways to stay healthy and exercise at home. Simple joins others like Noom, a weight loss platform that emphasises mindful eating over strict diets and MyFitnessPal, which is a calorie tracker and BMI calculator designed to assist people in meeting their goals and tracking their nutritional intake, with some sections available for free on the app.
For Kelly, the wide variety of help from Simple is what helped her kick-start her fitness once more: “I think it’s a really, really good app. It’s not essential that you go for the premium,” she said, explaining that there is a free version of the app, alongside paid-for subscriptions. “However, the premium is really, really good, especially when you’re first starting out.

“It gives you that sort of push. It gives you ideas of what to do as well. It just keeps you motivated. And I think once you see those results, it will keep continuing to push you to reach that end goal that you want to achieve.”
She added: “I still have halfway there really, I’ve still got a little way to go. But what I feel, how I feel with the app, is that it’s made me realise that fasting isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle change, and with that, I know that I will get to my own goal. The two stone in itself is definitely showing that I can achieve what I want to and it’s making me more aware, and it’s a lifestyle change for not just myself but my family.”

Other users of Simple have shared their thoughts on Trustpilot, where it boasts an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars. One reviewer said: “This app is one of the easiest ones to see if your food is on target without counting calories. It also reminds you when your chosen eating window starts and ends. Must say it’s worth picking a coach. Really positive experience and gives you ideas on how to tweak what you eat to make it better for a balanced meal.”
Another user added: “Absolutely amazing app. I have lost over one stone using this. There is always help at hand when I have my struggles. The app is very easy to use. Love it!”
One individual suggested room for improvement, noting: “Honestly, a super supportive app that doesn’t make me feel bad if I miss a day or something. I do wish it had more options for drinks (lemonade, for example is hard to track accurately) or an option to write in a drink or activities. Otherwise, it’s great.”
Another user commented on the free version: “It’s an easy way to track food and drinks. It’s too expensive for the upgrade so I just use the free version which pretty much does what I need.”
