Work has begun on the David Lloyd Club in Bishop’s Cleeve, with doors set to open in autumn 2026.
David Lloyd Clubs, the health and wellness group, has confirmed construction is underway at the new site, located on the outskirts of the village, north of Cheltenham.
The state-of-the-art club will offer a wide range of health, fitness, racquets and spa facilities for families and adults of all ages.
In addition to promoting health and wellness, the new club will also boost the local economy by creating approximately 80-100 jobs in various roles – from sport and wellbeing to catering and hospitality.
Planning permission for David Lloyd Bishop’s Cleeve was granted by Tewksbury Borough Council in July 2025, with a vision of fostering a healthy and sustainable community.
This will be the second David Lloyd Club in Gloucestershire, joining an existing club in Gloucester city centre.
Stuart Caswell, new club acquisitions director at David Lloyd Clubs said: “We’re excited to announce that construction is now underway at the new, state-of-the-art Bishop’s Cleeve Club. It’s a big milestone and we’re looking forward to becoming an integral part of the local community, offering fantastic health and wellness facilities for all ages.
“We are also pleased to be creating new career opportunities for Cheltenham and Gloucestershire, and we’ll shortly be recruiting for roles in sport, fitness, spa, hospitality, catering and business admin. We look forward to opening our doors and welcoming new members next autumn.”
The highlight of the new club will be the 100+ station gym, which will feature David Lloyd Clubs’ innovative gym concept and a selection of top-tier equipment.

The group exercise studios will host over 100 classes each week, including the Signature Classes Collection from David Lloyd Clubs. Members can participate in high-energy workouts like IGN1TE, find equilibrium in Mind and Body classes such as SPIRIT, Pilates and yoga, pedal through thrilling RHYTHM and CYCLONE group cycling classes, and experience the adrenaline surge from the exclusive HIIT class BLAZE.
Additional amenities include heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, premium cushioned acrylic indoor tennis courts, and outdoor padel courts.
Beyond the fitness facilities, the new Club will feature a luxurious indoor and outdoor Spa Retreat, which is a signature wellness offering from David Lloyd Clubs. This includes a variety of unique experiences and rooms such as a Himalayan Salt Sauna, Fire and Ice room, Rainforest Experience Shower, invigorating citrus steam room, plunge pool, and a swim in/out hydrotherapy pool.

All these are set within a space to promote relaxation and rejuvenation. Additionally, there’s a serene Spa Garden equipped with a plunge pool, hydrotherapy pool, loungers and a sauna.
The sophisticated Clubroom will provide the perfect environment to relax with loved ones whilst enjoying a tasty meal.
A Business Lounge will serve as an excellent alternative to home working, featuring comfortable seating at various heights alongside mobile phone charging facilities.
The Clubroom will also feature a dedicated family area and indoor soft play zone for youngsters positioned at the far end from the Business Lounge.
The new facility will provide structured, progressive swimming and tennis instruction for youngsters from 3 months to 12 years, DL Kids after-school and holiday programmes, plus childcare services for infants aged 0-5 years.
Additionally, for children aged 8 years and above, the David Lloyd Clubs “Rebels” sessions give youngsters an opportunity to improve their fitness and wellbeing, stay active and enjoy quality exercise time with their parents and carers.
The facility will feature a 315-space car park, incorporating disabled, parent and child, and electric vehicle charging spaces, along with sheltered bicycle storage.
