Freedom Leisure will take over the operation of Braintree Council’s leisure services from the start of September.

The key facilities include Braintree Swim and Fitness, Witham Leisure Centre and Witham Sports Ground, Braintree Sports and Health Club and Halstead Leisure Centre.

Freedom Leisure is taking over from Fusion Lifestyle, which has run the centres for 13 years.

The not-for-profit leisure trust has been awarded a three-year contract, with the option to extend for another two years.

Council health and well-being boss Lynette Bowers-Flint said: “We are delighted to welcome Freedom Leisure to the Braintree district.

“Their vision for the future of leisure services aligns perfectly with our commitment to promoting health and wellbeing within our community.

“We are excited about the new partnership, and we believe it will benefit our community and our residents.”

The council says one of the key priorities for the new contract will be to improve the experience for customers across the district.

Freedom Leisure’s chief exec Ivan Horsfall-Turner said the trust was “delighted” to be working with Braintree Council, and it was an exciting time for the area.”

The council thanked Fusion Lifestyle for its 13 years of “dedicated service”.
