FORTY FORT — Residents of the Wyoming Valley have a new destination to prepare for their next summit, trail ride, weekend trek, or trip to the grocery store. Matt Dantone and Leo Skoronski, founders and co-owners of Construct, 190 Welles St., held a Grand Opening Expo on Saturday to celebrate the new business.

Operating under the philosophy “Train for Life. Then Go Live it,” Construct, according to a news release, is an 8,300-square-foot facility that “breaks the mold of traditional gyms.”

“Construct focuses on functional strength and durability, designed to help members excel in outdoor pursuits ranging from casual community walks to strenuous mountain biking and rock climbing,” according to the release.

“We believe the gym should be the preparation, not the destination,” Skoronski said in the release. “Our mission is to build a community of people who want to be physically capable of enjoying everything Northeast Pennsylvania has to offer. We build the strength in here so you can use it out there.”

The Grand Opening Expo featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials and a donation to local Boy Scout Troop 154 in Kingston. Instructors and trainers offered mini classes in cycling, Pilates, functional fitness, yoga, mobility for sports, and more. Guests were also invited to take an inside look at the facility, share food and refreshments, take advantage of special offers and drawings, and browse a vendor showcase.

“Construct aims to fill a gap in the local fitness market by prioritizing ‘longevity-based’ training,” according to the release. “By focusing on mobility, core stability, and functional power, the gym helps members reduce the risk of injury during outdoor activities while increasing their performance.”

“Whether you’re training to keep up with your grandkids on a walk or preparing for a technical climb, we provide the blueprint,” said Dantone. “We aren’t just building muscle; we’re building a warm, encouraging community and the ability to live life to the fullest. And when we say community, we mean it. One of the things we were determined to establish when we opened were monthly ‘field trips,’ to outdoor attractions in NEPA. Our field trips give current and future members a chance to meet and get to know each other outside the gym and also participate in an activity that maybe they haven’t tried before.”
