Football For Fitness sessions aim to help adults improve their health in a supportive and enjoyable setting.

Launched by Dorchester resident Samuel Lighten, the programme blends football-themed exercises with general fitness activities and is designed for adults of mixed abilities.

Samuel said: “A lot of people want to get fitter but don’t necessarily enjoy the gym environment or feel comfortable joining competitive sports teams.

“Football For Fitness is about making exercise enjoyable again while bringing people together through something familiar and social.”

The sessions focus on movement, fitness and enjoyment over competition, offering a relaxed environment for participants to build confidence and improve their wellbeing.

Each session includes light football drills, movement-based exercises, fitness games and small-sided football.

The emphasis is on inclusivity and participation.

Open to both men and women, the sessions are suited to a wide range of fitness levels, including those who haven’t played football in years.

Sessions take place on Mondays in Weymouth and Dorchester.

Weymouth sessions run from 6pm to 7pm at Redlands, while Dorchester sessions are held from 8pm to 9pm at the 1610 Leisure Centre.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early to register and should wear suitable footwear for astroturf surfaces.

Organisers hope the scheme will help more people get active, connect with others and rediscover the fun in fitness.
