Detailed plans for the UK’s first enhanced David Lloyd Leisure wellness club to be built in Nantwich are set to go before the council next month.
The leisure firm’s plans for land off Newcastle Road, close to the Crewe Vagrants sports and social club, are set tp go before Cheshire East’s Strategic Planning Board on Wednesday September 16th.
If approved, a new “flagship facility” for David Lloyd Leisure would be built which they say would be the UK’s first proposed enhanced David Lloyd Clubs wellness Club.
We revealed in June 2025 how the plans include swimming, fitness and wellness facilities, a sporting hub alongside the existing facilities next door, and would create up to 100 permanent jobs as well as more than 60 during construction.
The company says it would include EV charging and an energy-efficient design in line with a carbon net zero commitment.
They say several amendments were made following a public consultation on their original plans back in 2024.
These included adding a new footpath and cycleway links with the Crewe Vagrants site next door to ensure easy pedestrian and cycling access.
Now the company is urging members of the public in Nantwich to air their views on the plans before the plans go to the council planning board in September.
A David Lloyd spokesperson said: “Since the start of this project, we have listened to local people.
“At our public consultation, the concern raised most often was traffic and highways.
“We took those comments seriously and worked through them with our transport specialists and Cheshire East Council.
“Following that work, the council’s highways authority has confirmed it has no objection to our proposals.
“We need your help. If you want to see this club delivered in Nantwich, the council needs to hear it from you — not just from us.”
If the plans go ahead, construction is likely to start in 2027 and the club could be opened the following year.
