The founders of Vagabond Pilates, based in Lytchett Matravers and Blandford Forum, say slower, more intentional movement is just as effective, and more sustainable for everyday life.

Their message comes after National Fitness Day, which this year carries the theme “Powered by You.”

Millie, co-founder of Vagabond Pilates, said: “People are often taught to believe that exercise only counts if it leaves them completely exhausted.

“We want to challenge that.”

The team, which includes co-founder Tim, who spent two years with the UK Special Forces Selection Team, believes a more mindful approach to fitness can deliver long-term results without injury or burnout.

Tim’s military background showed him that pushing harder isn’t always better—especially when technique and decision-making start to break down under fatigue.

Vagabond Pilates promotes controlled movement through Pilates, using the body’s own weight and apparatus with adjustable resistance to build flexibility, control, mobility and confidence.

It can challenge experienced clients and complement more intense training, while also supporting beginners and people returning after a break.

They also believe exercise should support people through life’s tougher moments, not just when they feel energised and at their best.
