The 12-week scheme is designed to help residents with long-term health conditions become more active through tailored support at Clements Hall Leisure Centre.

It is delivered by Everyone Active in partnership with Rochford Council.

Participants will receive a personalised activity plan following a health screening and one-to-one consultation with a trained exercise referral specialist.

Joanne Ward, who will lead the programme in Rochford, said: “I’m really excited to be leading the GP Exercise Referral scheme here at Clements Hall Leisure Centre.

“Having worked in leisure for 25 years in Rochford, I’ve seen first-hand the difference that physical activity can make to people’s lives.

“This programme is a fantastic opportunity to help local residents build confidence, improve their health and take those first steps towards a more active lifestyle.

“I can’t wait to welcome participants and support them on their journey.”

This is the first time in more than five years that Rochford has offered a GP exercise referral programme.

Participants will have access to gym sessions, swimming, and select classes, with guidance on the most suitable activities provided during their initial appointment.

Dan Humphries, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to be launching the GP Exercise Referral scheme in Rochford after beginning our partnership with Rochford District Council earlier this year.

“This programme has huge potential to improve the health and wellbeing of local people by making exercise accessible and supported for those who need it most.

“We are already working closely with local GP surgeries to ensure as many residents as possible are able to benefit.”

The scheme also aims to create lasting change by helping individuals develop the skills and confidence to continue exercising beyond the initial 12 weeks.

Residents interested in taking part should speak to their GP or healthcare professional, who will assess their eligibility and make a referral if appropriate.

Once referred, participants will book an assessment at the leisure centre, where a personalised plan will be created.
