Lee Trundle has revealed two simple changes he made to his diet to transform his body ahead of a charity boxing match. Fans were left stunned by the former Swansea and Wrexham star’s incredible physique when he stepped into the ring to face ex-Premier League player Anthony Gardner last weekend.
The 49-year-old prepared for the Pro Project Promotions event in London last Saturday, aimed at raising £500,000 for life-changing charities, by training with Wales’ ex-WBO cruiserweight w‎orld champion Enzo Maccarinelli. Sadly for Trundle, he suffered defeat on the night as former Tottenham and Everton defender Gardner won by a unanimous verdict.
However, a diet plan which saw the Soccer AM icon cut out chocolate and alcohol during his seven-week training camp has left him in good shape and he intends to maintain it. Remarkably, Trundle was able to combine the strict regime with playing for Pure Swansea Foot‎ball in the third tier of the Welsh football league system up until three weeks before the fight.
He has now shared the secrets to his muscular look in an interview with Mirror Football, in association with Top-Rated Casino Sites.
“I was training with Enzo Maccarinelli at the Bonymaen Boxing Gym,” Trundle said. “I had good sparring partners there and the training is something that I’ll definitely carry on with the shape that I got myself into over those few weeks as well.

“I never had a drink for all of that time. I was seeing a dietitian where I had proper meal plans and I never had chocolate for those seven weeks, I cut everything out. But I still did my own strength and conditioning training. I still did my football and then added the boxing on top.
“There were probably three times in the week where I did three sessions a day and the other ones with two sessions. That’s still with playing matches involved. It’s just an accumulation of everything, the extra training and tidying my diet out. I thought that if I was getting in the ring, I wanted to feel as though I’d done everything right.”

Trundle was occasionally taunted over his weight by opposition fans during the early stages of his footballing journey after starting his professional career at Wrexham in 2001 before later moving to Swansea. However, his impressive traps and thick arms clearly caught the attention of viewers during last week’s fight.
While voicing his disappointment over losing to Gardner, Trundle hasn’t ruled out returning to the ring again in the future.
He said: “A lot of the stuff that Enzo told me about being calm probably went out the window. It was a great experience to be in the ring, but I went out and started too fast though and blew myself out. I’ve watched the fight back and I thought I hadn’t really done much work.

“I think what I was doing was trying to land every punch to be a knockout. Doing that alone is the thing that just drains your body and that’s what happened to me. I never came out with any bruises or anything, it was just my lungs.”
Trundle added: “I only did seven weeks of camp and I got beaten as well so I don’t think I’m in any position to start calling people out, but it’s something I would definitely like to get involved with if it came up again.”
