Crime statistics show that people feel more vulnerable walking or running alone after dark than during the day.

Stick to well-lit routes that you’ve familiar with.

Should you regularly walk or run alone to and from the same place, try to have two or three different route options prepared and switch it up. You don’t want anyone with bad intentions to identify a pattern in your movements.

Even better, join a walking or running club. England Athletics have partnered with Let’s Lift the Curfew, a campaign that encourages women to feel safer when being active outdoors in the darker months.

Power is in numbers, so check out the interactive map here, external to find a club near you.
