I’ve worn an Apple Watch on my wrist for over 10 years (including the morning of my wedding), putting every iteration to the test. After spending the last few months using the latest models, including a year prior with the Series 10, Apple’s ever-popular smartwatches are the best they’ve ever been.

Whether you’re after an entry-level watch for notifications and health tracking, or a high-end adventure companion, there’s an Apple Watch to suit. Prices range from £219 for the Watch SE 3, all the way up to £749 for the Watch Ultra 3, with the Watch Series 11 sitting in the middle.

The right Apple Watch for you largely depends on your budget, but you also need to consider which health features you need and how you plan to use it. Here’s how each Apple Watch differs, and who each model is best for.

The best Apple Watches: At a glanceHow to choose the best Apple Watch

The most important question to ask before buying an Apple Watch is how much you’re willing to spend. The Watch SE 3 is the entry point, and it covers the basics. Climbing up the price scale, the Watch Series 11 offers a better battery life, but costs around £150 more.

The Watch Ultra 3 sits at the top end, with a rugged design, the longest battery life of any Apple Watch, and adventure-ready features like emergency SOS via satellite. The caveat? It’s double the price of the Series 11 at £749 (RRP). On that point, the older Series 10 is still worth considering, as it is available at a discount (if you can find one) while offering many of the same features.

Beyond budget, you should think about which health features matter to you. If ECG (electrocardiogram), AFib detection (irregular heartbeat), or hypertension monitoring are priorities, you’ll need at least a Series 10. For simple fitness tracking and smart notifications, the cheaper SE 3 will serve you well. The SE 3 and Series 11 need daily charging, while the Ultra 3 can comfortably last a couple of days on one charge. Finally, when it comes to design, the Series 11 and SE 3 are slim and lightweight, while the Ultra 3 makes a bolder statement.
