Four leisure centres in Sutton will benefit from a £1.35 million investment this summer, aimed at enhancing gym facilities as part of a wider improvement project.

The upgrades will be delivered by Everyone Active, which operates as an agent for Sutton Council, and will include complete refurbishments at Cheam Leisure Centre and Westcroft Leisure Centre.

Both centres will receive brand-new Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment, alongside a modernised gym environment.

The Phoenix Centre and David Weir Leisure Centre will also benefit from gym refreshes, including upgraded Technogym equipment and enhancements to the overall training environment.

Rebecca Eyles, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re delighted to be investing £1.35 million into gym facilities across Sutton’s leisure centres.

“The programme includes complete refurbishments at Cheam Leisure Centre and Westcroft Leisure Centre, alongside significant gym refreshes at The Phoenix Centre and David Weir Leisure Centre, helping us provide modern, high-quality fitness environments and support more people in leading active and healthy lifestyles.

“We’ve carefully planned the refurbishment programme to minimise disruption wherever possible, ensuring members can continue accessing alternative facilities throughout the works. We’re excited for customers to experience the transformed gyms later this summer.”

Improvements will be carried out in phases throughout July and August to minimise disruption to gym users.

While individual gyms will temporarily close during the improvement works, customers will still be able to access alternative nearby Everyone Active facilities within the Sutton contract.

Group exercise classes and wider centre activities will continue to operate as normal throughout the programme.

The investment marks the first major upgrade to Sutton’s leisure centres since 2019 and reflects a shared commitment between Everyone Active and Sutton Council to encourage healthier, more active communities through improved facilities.

Members will receive further information directly ahead of works commencing, including refurbishment timelines and details of alternative gym access arrangements.
