Vicky Pattison is taking on an epic 250-mile (400km) endurance challenge this October, cycling, running and kayaking from Newcastle to London in aid of Global’s Make Some Noise.
The ‘Tyne to Thames’ challenge will see Vicky set off from her home city of Newcastle on Monday 5 October, travelling through York, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester over five days before finishing at the Heart studios in Leicester Square on Friday 9 October.
Global’s Make Some Noise, Heart’s official charity, funds projects delivered by small charities across the UK, supporting people affected by life-limiting illnesses, mental health challenges, domestic abuse and poverty.
‘Anyone who knows me knows I’m at my happiest on the sofa, in my comfies, with my dogs, so this is quite literally the opposite of my usual idea of a good time!’ Vicky said.
And she’s under no illusions about how physically demanding five consecutive days of running, cycling and kayaking will be.
‘I’m under no illusion that this is going to be tough, and there will absolutely be moments where I’m wondering why I’ve done this to myself. But that’s the whole point,’ she added.
‘Global’s Make Some Noise supports these incredible projects, led by small, local charities doing life-changing work, and if I can push myself completely out of my comfort zone, get a few blisters and hopefully raise a load of money along the way, then I’ll consider every ache, mile and paddle absolutely worth it!’
How Vicky Pattison is preparing for the 250-mile challenge
If Vicky’s regular workouts are anything to go by, however, she’s no stranger to pushing herself physically.
‘Working out has always been about keeping her moving, feeling good and getting stronger,’ her PT Rob Horslen previously told WH.
Her typical strength sessions include exercises such as Bulgarian split squats, thrusters, weighted step-ups and med-ball slams – all of which help build the kind of full-body strength she’ll need as she tackles three different disciplines over five days.
