Vicky Pattison is training for two major charity challenges – but she says her biggest motivation for getting fitter is personal.
‘My big goal this year… I didn’t know I would be trekking the Great Wall of China or doing the Tyne to Thames challenge… I did know I wanted to have a baby – or at least try to. So, for me, the main motivation for getting fitter has been that,’ she tells WH.
Vicky’s challenges take her well beyond the gym. She’s preparing to walk part of the Great Wall of China for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!, before cycling, running and kayaking 250 miles from Newcastle to London for Make Some Noise.
Her training combines strength work, plyometrics and Pilates. She works with personal trainer Rob Horslen and strength and conditioning coach Tracey Corbett, who has helped prepare other presenters for physical challenges.
Vicky is joining Women’s Health Editor-in-Chief Claire Sanderson as the new co-host of Just As Well. Tune in for honest conversations, expert advice and plenty of laughs as they tackle the health questions women actually want answered.
The goal is to feel fitter and stronger, while building the capacity to take on long days of activity. Her motivation also reflects the life she hopes to build: she and her husband, Ercan Ramadan, are trying to conceive naturally.
In the interview, she describes how making the documentary Maybe, Baby? helped her understand what she wanted. ‘What I realised slowly is that it’s a huge sacrifice and a huge commitment. But it’s also one that’s worth doing if you think you want to be a mum,’ she says.
Her current fitness approach less about chasing a particular look and more about preparing for what she wants to do next – from taking on demanding charity challenges to starting a family.
