Jack Bradley has launched a private fitness studio in Buttercrambe after growing demand for his outdoor sessions led him to invest in a permanent indoor space.

The studio, in Donkey Stables, offers one-to-one training and small group strength and conditioning classes in a rural setting, just outside Stamford Bridge.

Mr Bradley said: “I thought – why not take the training outside?

“There was a great space near the Walled Garden in Buttercrambe owned by my landlord that was available to use, so I invested in some equipment and decided to give it a go.”

The business began when he noticed that his commercial gym was quieter than usual over the summer months.

He decided to test the idea of outdoor training in the nearby village.

Mr Bradley said: “It definitely felt like a bit of a risk.

“Buttercrambe is a small village, and I wondered whether people would actually travel out here for a fitness class.”

The risk paid off, thanks to a stretch of good weather and the support of his existing clients.

Mr Bradley said: “The classes gradually grew, with people travelling from York, Pocklington, Malton and surrounding villages.”

As demand increased, he decided to set up a permanent indoor studio, investing in equipment and renovating the Donkey Stables.

The studio now offers a mix of full-body strength training and cardiovascular conditioning.

Mr Bradley said: “I’ve put most of what I’ve earned straight back into equipment and improving the space.

“I just want to create somewhere people really enjoy coming to train.

“Having my own space means I can run classes exactly how I want.

“But the community is just as important as the training.”

The studio also serves as a place for people to connect and socialise.

Mr Bradley said: “It’s great seeing people from different backgrounds meet, encourage one another and form friendships through exercise.”

He plans to continue growing the business while maintaining its welcoming, personal atmosphere.
