David Lloyd Leisure was founded in 1982 and has grown to become a leading health, sport and leisure company, operating 150 clubs across the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.

Proposals have emerged for the company to establish a new purpose-built facility in Green Park.

The new club would be created on unused grassland located off Longwater Avenue, near the Three mobile and Wood Plc offices.

The facility would have a state-of-the-art gym, a heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a luxurious spa and spa garden, a stylish clubroom_

True to the sporting heritage of its founder, former British Davis Cup tennis captain David Lloyd, it would also feature top-class racquet courts, with a permanent tennis enclosure and padel courts with a canopy roof.

A website has been launched ahead of the submission of a planning application to Reading Borough Council.

It states: “David Lloyd Leisure is bringing forward exciting new proposals for a state-of-the-art premium health and wellness club on land off Longwater Avenue, Green Park, Reading.

“We have prepared this website to provide information on the proposals and to keep you informed with the next steps.

“David Lloyd Clubs provide members with a wide range of premium health and wellness facilities and services.

“A new access will be created from Longwater Avenue, which links to the wider road network and Reading via the A33.

“There is access to public transportation with the nearest bus stop approximately 2 minutes walk away. ”

It also has indicative CGI images featuring a building with solar panels, an alfresco dining area with a screen showing tennis and an outdoor pool with loungers.

The website makes it clear that these are only indicative images and are not specifically of the proposed club for Green Park.

It has a ‘benefits’ tab which states it will create 80-100 full-time equivalent jobs for people across a wide range of roles and departments.

Visitors can get the latest updates regarding the planning application and provide contact details on the website.

You can call 0800 080 3171 or email davidlloyd@devcomms.co.uk .

You can go to a David Lloyd Club without a full membership by using a guest pass, a day pass, or a short-term trial option.

However, the business is mainly membership-based, as can be found on the main website.

David Lloyd currently maintains centres at Thames Valley Park in Earley, Nine Mile Ride in Bracknell and Maidenhead town centre.
