SAN JOSE — A woman died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. in the area of Capitol Avenue and Longford Drive, according to a press release from the San Jose Police Department.

A driver had been traveling northbound on Captiol Avenue when they struck a pedestrian crossing the street, authorities said.

The pedestrian, an adult female, was taken to a hospital where she later died of her injuries, authorities added. Her identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office pending identification.

The suspect, who remains unknown, fled the scene before police arrived, authorities said. They do not know the make of the involved vehicle.

The death marks San Jose’s fourth traffic fatality, fourth fatal collision and third pedestrian death of the year.
