Signal Downtown Oakland (Temporary Closure)
Thanks to the tipster that let Nosh know that Signal Coffee located in the bottom floor off the Tribune Tower has a sign posted in the window announcing a temporary closure. “Due to continuing staffing shortages at this location, Signal at Tribune will be closed until further notice while we group,” the note read in part. The cafe opened in the tower in April. Signal’s cafes in Berkeley, Alameda and San Francisco remain open. Signal Coffee, 411 13th St., Oakland
Top Dog (Lakeshore)
Top Dog, the Bay’s classic outpost for juicy hot links, frankfurters and chicken apple sausages, is counting down its final days in Oakland. Owners Renie and Richard Riemann had decided not to renew their lease after a slew of robberies and financial uncertainty, but said that after business picked back up again, they’d decided to stick around. When a new owner bought the building, however, Top Dog wasn’t offered a new lease, forcing the closure of an institution that’s been on Lakeshore Ave. since 2011. The original location on Durant Ave. in Berkeley is the last to remain. As of now, there’s no set closing date yet. Top Dog was located at 3272 Lakeshore Ave. in Oakland.
