Kilovolt Coffee

Kilovolt Coffee has soft opened in West Oakland, Redditors reported. The coffee shop first opened on Mandela Parkway in 2014, but lost its lease last year. According to the website, the menu includes drip coffee and espresso drinks, plus bagels and sandwiches. Kilovolt Coffee, 1746 13th St., Oakland.

La Cocinita Nica

A Nicaraguan fritanga has landed in Oakland’s Melrose district. A fritanga refers to a street food vendor, typically serving friends foods. La Cocinita Nica has already become popular since it opened. The fritanga serves sopas, carne asada, and other dishes in a festive environment. La Cocinita Nica also has a location in Daly City, and is opening a new one in San Jose. La Cocinita Nica, 5323 Fairfax Ave., Oakland.

Palmetto Superfoods

A new location of the customized acai bowl spot has opened in Fremont (a location is also opening soon in downtown Berkeley). Palmetto opened the first location in the Richmond district of San Francisco. Palmetto is known for its blended bases, including acai, coconut, spirulina, matcha, mango, or dragonfruit that can be added together in layers in one bowl, and an unlimited number of toppings. Philz Coffee

Philz Coffee is opening a new location in San Leandro on Wednesday, March 18. The Oakland-based coffee roastery, which opened its first shop in the Mission district in SF, serves a popular mint mojito drink with fresh smashed mint leaves, and has also introduced new flavors like pistachio spice coffee. The San Leandro store commissioned artist Nigel Sussman to paint interior murals. Philz Coffee, 1194 E. 14th St., San Leandro. 

Sofia’s House

Whether you’re craving burgers and fries, a burrito, or a hearty stew, Sophia’s House has it all. The Mexican American restaurant recently opened, replacing Chimmelier, a Korean street food and KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) spot. Sofia’s House is open for brunch, where they serve chilaquiles and omelettes, as well as lunch and dinner. Sofia’s House, 3905 Broadway Ave., Oakland.

Tasty Sichuan

A new Sichuan spot recently opened in El Cerrito, serving an array of dishes, from handmade dumplings and noodles to Chinese American favorites such as General Tso’s chicken. Tasty Sichuan, 10675 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito. 

Zoco Fusion

Zoco Fusion recently opened, bringing halal, Mexican and Mediterranean dishes like tacos and shawarma wraps. Zoco Fusion, 134 14th St., Oakland.
