SAN JOSE – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Monday night in San Jose, police said.

The collision was reported around 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of Almaden Expressway and San Jose Avenue, according to San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez.

The pedestrian, identified only as an adult male, was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The death marked San Jose’s fourth pedestrian death and sixth overall traffic fatality of the year. The city had recorded the same number of deaths at this point in 2025.

Hernandez said an investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing Almaden Expressway westbound from the center median when he was hit by a driver traveling southbound in a 2007 Dodge SUV. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk, she added.

The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said.
