SAN JOSE — A man died Tuesday after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle, authorities said.

Authorities responded to the scene in the area of Blackford Lane and Meridian Avenue around 1:20 p.m., according to a news release from the San Jose Police Department.

A 2014 Mazda CX-5 SUV driven by an adult man was traveling northbound on Meridian Avenue and was making a left turn onto Blackford Lane, authorities said. A 2004 Yamaha motorcycle ridden by an adult man was traveling southbound on Meridian Avenue when it struck the SUV.

The motocyclist was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, authorities added.

The motocyclist’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office pending identification and notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene of the collision and cooperated with authorities, police said.

This is San Jose’s ninth traffic death and ninth fatal collision of the year.
