Officers responded just before 4 p.m. March 31 to reports of a fight involving several juveniles in the 2400 block of Vienna Drive, near Milpitas High School, police said in a statement on Facebook.
Police said the 17-year-old was stabbed multiple times and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The teen was identified as Jarred Cavan.
A 17-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Santa Clara County juvenile hall.Â
The Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office is seeking to move the 17-year-old’s case from juvenile to adult court. He’s been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon, with an allegation of using a knife.Â
Detectives later identified a second suspect and the 16-year-old was arrested Thursday in the Southern California city of Ontario, police said
Milpitas police have since taken custody of the 16-year-old, who will also be booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.
