Blood drives
Nonprofit Vitalant is holding blood drives in San Jose in April, and all donors will have a chance to win a $10,000 prepaid gift card.
Vitalant provides over 40 bay area hospitals with nearly 400 units of blood every day.
Donors of all types are needed to help patients of all blood types. The need is greatest for type O, the most transfused and most compatible when there’s no time to test a patient’s blood type.
Blood drives are set for Friday, April 17, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at the West Valley Branch Library, and Monday, April 27, noon-5 p.m., at Cambrian Park Church of the Nazarene. For more information and to make an appointment, visit vitalant.org or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825).
Taking a quiz
Six San Jose students are among 300 players set to compete in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ Individual Player National Championship Tournament on Sunday, April 11, in Rosemont, Ill.
This quiz bowl event—the eighth championship of its kind—is an individual competition, whereas most quiz bowls are for teams of students. The San Jose students competing are Ethan Cheng, Timothy Deng and Pascal Qin from Harker School; Ishaan Dinesh from BASIS Independent Silicon Valley; Advait Duvvuru of Archbishop Mitty High School; and Arjun Singampalli from Bellarmine College Preparatory.

Khanna town hall
Congressman Ro Khanna will host a town hall Saturday, April 25, 10:30 a.m.-noon, at De Vargas Elementary School’s Guided Learning Center, located at 5050 Moorpark Ave. Khanna will discuss his latest work in Congress and answer questions from constituents.
