Local Grateful Dead fans are in for a massive treat this weekend as Gillian Welch and David Rawlings celebrate the legendary jam band’s music during three big shows.
Welch and Rawlings will be performing acoustic sets of Grateful Dead music at concerts in Oakland and Santa Cruz.
The shows celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s “Reckoning,” a double-disc acoustic effort that the Grateful Dead recorded at The Warfield in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York in the fall of 1980.
“Reckoning” was released in 1981.
Welch and Rawlings perform two nights — April 17 and 18 — at the Fox in Oakland and April 19 at the Quarry Amphitheater in Santa Cruz.
(For those who have yet to visit the Quarry, it’s truly an amazing place to experience live music. Longtime concertgoers in the Bay Area already know that the Fox is one of the top live-music destinations in all of Northern California.)
