Summer internships
The City of Milpitas is launching its first-ever Summer Internship Program, an eight- to 10-week internship for college students interested in learning about careers in local government. Interns will gain professional work experience in city operations while developing interdisciplinary public service knowledge and skills. Interns will be placed based on their areas of interest, rather than by department-specific project needs. Apply at milpitas.info/summerintern.
Cars for careers
The Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center is hosting its 20th annual Bob McTaggart Custom and Classic Car Show on Friday, May 1, 5-8 p.m., at the Metropolitan Education District, 760 Hillsdale Ave. in San Jose.
Each year, the event attracts hundreds of attendees who come to admire a wide variety of custom and classic vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, trucks and bikes.
The show supports SVCTE’s SkillsUSA chapter, a Career Technical Student Organization that helps students develop hands-on skills and leadership experience in preparation for careers in automotive technology and related industries. Previous shows have raised over $10,000 to support student competitions and educational resources.
In addition to showcasing vehicles, the evening also features raffles, prizes, live music by Cold Storage and food prepared by SVCTE’s Culinary Arts students.
