SAN JOSE – A standoff in downtown San Jose ended Monday night with a suspect in custody, police said.

Officers were initially called to the 200 block of South 4th Street around 5:35 p.m. for a report of a family disturbance involving a weapon, the San Jose Police Department said in a social media post.

At one point, the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment.

Around 8:30 p.m., police announced negotiators had convinced the suspect to leave the apartment.

“He was taken into custody without further incident,” police said.

Several streets in the area were closed during the standoff, but they later reopened.
